New creation after the Ballet fantastique in two acts, premièred at the Académie Royale de Musique in Paris on 28 June 1841.

Martin Chaix tackles a monument of the classical repertoire. Giselle, or how a young woman (a keen dancer) lets herself be seduced by Albrecht (a Don Juan already engaged to another) ⁠and saves him from the Wilis (living dead who kill men by dancing with them until exhaustion) before going mad.  

The theme of this ballet, with the participation of Théophile Gautier, is a pure product of the 19th century: hybrid creatures, a phantasmagorical nature and romantic relationships where suicide rubs shoulders with madness … A gem that has stood the test of time, never ceasing to inspire choreographers. Because taking on the challenge of Giselle is something they all dream of doing one day.

Martin Chaix has brilliantly risen to the challenge. Finding the balance between pointe and modernity, the choreographer offers us a Giselle anchored in our time, questioning the place of women and committed to restoring the balance of power.
