A hymn to love and peace, The Magic Flute is without doubt the most popular and universal work in the history of opera. At the end of his all-too-short life, Mozart's music continues to touch audiences of all ages, 250 years after its premiere.
Will the forces of evil triumph on this poor earth? For that matter, do we always know where good lies and where evil? Is Sarastro really the villain of the story, whom the Queen of the Night seeks to bring down? In a world where human bonds seem to be cracking every day, The Magic Flute invites us to rediscover the meaning of our actions, and to put the heart back at the center of our decisions.
For his first operatic production, acclaimed filmmaker Cédric Klapisch takes up this timeless tale and, between laughter and gravity, poetry and carefreeness, leads us, like Tamino and Pamina, on the most wonderful of initiatory journeys.
Performed in German, with French and English surtitles (dialogues adapted into French by Cédric Klapisch).
"Come with your parents" for 5 to 10 year olds: While your parents are watching the show, you can discover the Opera by taking part in an original cultural activity for just €5. Session for "The Magic Flute": Sunday 26 January at 3pm, go to the box office for bookings, subject to availability.
